        Situation

        For the past two years, Air New Zealand has focused on creating brand awareness in the UK and wanted to expand with a global, integrated campaign built around an influencer trip. The resulting content needed to stand apart from the competition, inspire travel to New Zealand with the airline, educate consumers about Air New Zealand, and promote the award-winning onboard experience and Premium Economy upgrade. Research showed that couples take “make or break” trips – so we decided to center the campaign on a couple taking a love-filled trip in New Zealand’s romantic landscapes.

        Action

        The campaign targeted UK and German travelers, which made Sandy Breitmeier (@sandymakessense) the perfect collaborator, as she’s bilingual in English and German and has a travel style and follower base that aligns with Air New Zealand’s brand. Using a New Zealand production house, we executed a video production that followed Sandy and her partner Gurj Sohanpal (@gurjsohanpal) on their romantic trip, capturing in-flight and in-destination footage, to create a captivating ad shared on YouTube, programmatic digital and social media. To support the campaign, Sandy and Gurj shared the sponsored trip on their social media platforms.

        Results

        Viewers resonated with our “New Zealand is your love language” messaging – Sandy’s and Gurj’s content generated over 659,000 views, 18,300 engagements and 13,300 likes. Overall, the campaign exceeded our goals, delivering more than 17.9 million impressions in the UK and German markets, achieving a CTR of 0.73% (against a 0.07%–0.10% goal), an average VCR of 63.1% for 30s and 52s videos, and paid social CTR of 0.94%. While not initially part of the campaign, the video produced for the campaign succeeded in elevating and extending the influencers’ impact, delivering impactful results for Air New Zealand.
