Vibrant and intensely unique, the five destinations of the Florida Keys abound with wildlife, crystal clear waters and the promise of adventure – both onshore and off. To lure in potential travelers, The Florida Keys & Key West wanted more than a simple website update. They wanted to create a digital experience as rich and colorful as the Keys themselves – one that could showcase their incredible library of photos, videos and editorial content while offering powerful tools for visitors and local partners alike.
Our design featured the brand’s palette of oceanic blues as well as their iconic old Florida typography. Inspired by the unique personalities of each destination, we embraced a self-imposed “Rule of 5,” weaving the essence of the five coral islands into the structure and spirit of the site. Our modular, Drupal-based build delivers a personalized experience for users that surfaces content tailored to their interests, making the site feel less like a brochure and more like a bespoke invitation.
That customized approach extends to the reimagined destination partner portal, which allows The Florida Keys & Key West to easily manage business listings and will eventually be embedded into an expanded partner portal to give local stakeholders more control. We elevated how local businesses are featured throughout the site – for instance, the Ripe third-party integration lets users book directly with trusted partners without opening a new browser window.
Behind the scenes, the site is optimized for AI discovery, positioning it as a credible, central resource for everything the Keys have to offer – from water sport rentals to eco tours. And with the addition of a third-party “Conch-cierge,” an AI chatbot that answers questions in 45 languages, and Weglot translation sitewide, the destination’s digital welcome is as warm and inclusive as its famous hospitality.
By blending immersive storytelling, cutting-edge tech and intuitive design, the new The Florida Keys & Key West site captures the magic of the islands while connecting people to the experiences, businesses and communities that make the Keys so utterly unforgettable.
